Robert rocks Goodwood!
GOODWOOD, JULY 08 2006 – Traditionally, the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed took place in the UK this weekend. Besides many classic (racing)cars, also several F1 cars and drivers came into action at the three day event, among which ex-champ Mika Hakkinen, Ricardo Zonta and Robert Dooornbos. Here’s Robert’s report:
ROBERT DOORNBOS: “This was the first time I was invited to attend the Goodwood Festival, so I honestly didn’t know what to expect. But I have to say I enjoyed myself really well! I think there were just as many spectators as there were during the British GP, so the atmosphere was great. I was the first driver of the day to climb the hill in our car from last year, with the V10 still in it. Spectacular! The track is so small and there is only a small strip of grass at both sides, so there is certainly no room for error! Because of safety regulations, we didn’t make any timed runs, but we were only there to provide the crowd with some entertainment. Before we started, the marshals told us not to do any crazy things like making donuts etc., so my engineer and I decided to turn off the Traction Control and change the brake balance of the car. When I practised some starts, the car didn’t even move, hehe! Once I got up the hill I’d forgotten what the marshals told me and did some donuts anyway, just like Ricardo Zonta by the way. They can put me on the guestlist for next year’s event as well!”
