Robert unlucky in Silverstone
SILVERSTONE, JUNE 09 2006 – At a sunny Silverstone, Robert Doornbos didn’t had much luck in today’s Free Practises. Mechanical trouble in the opening session this morning prevented him from completing his programme for Red Bull Racing. Though Doornbos was going strong in Free Practise 02, this 60 minutes session proved to be too short to be competitive in the end. Doornbos finished the day in 12th position with a fastest lap of 1:23.140.
As most of the teams test regularly at Silverstone, only the Super Aguri’s and the testdrivers came into action in the first 45 minutes of first Free Practise session between 11:00 and 12:00 hours. Robert Doornbos didn’t have luck on his side in this openingssession. A problem with his power steering and an error in the software for the gearbox, only allowed him to drive a small number of laps. Without setting a single laptime, Doornbos lapped the circuit nine times after which he was classified in 15th position.
The afternoon session was much more productive for Doornbos. During the lunchbreak the team solved the issues from this morning’s session, and enable the 24-year old Dutchman to immediately start his busy programme as the lights went green. After having found a basic set-up, Doornbos continued with evaluating the two types of compounds Michelin brought with them for this race. When the flag dropped at 15:00 hour, Doornbos had driven 25 laps in which he set a best time of 1:23.140, handing him P12.
ROBERT DOORNBOS: “A rather dissapointing day unfortunately. This morning we experienced some mechanical woe as the powersteering didn’t work properly. Fortunately, the guys were able to solve these issues during the lunchbreak so we could make up some time in the afternoon. But in the end, these 60 minutes didn’t gave us enough time to be competitive today. We have quite some work to do overnight to improve our balance. Hopefully my new shoes bring more luck to the Dutch soccerteam this Sunday as they have brought me today.”
