Robert shows impressive pace in Free Practises
SÃO PAULO, SEPTEMBER 23 2005 – Robert Doornbos gave himself a nice birthday present as he finished the Friday Free Practises ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix in a surpising 14th position! At the 4,309 kilometer long Autodromo Carlos Pace the 24-year old Dutchman clocked a fastest time of 1:13.922. With this outstanding performance, the Minardi driver let, among others, his teammate Christijan Albers and both racedrivers of BAR, Red Bull Racing and Jordan GP behind him!
After Doornbos took it easy in the first hour of practise by lapping the Interlagos track only 12 times in his PS05, he drove a considerable number of laps more in the afternoon session. In the second Free Practise session between 14:00 and 15:00 hours, Doornbos mainly focussed on his tyre evaluation programme. In the closing stages of Free Practise 02 Doornbos managed to squeeze out a megaquick lap with which he surprised everyone in the Brazilian paddock!
ROBERT DOORNBOS: “This is definitely a nice birthday present! Compliments have to go out to the team as I think we did a very good job with the remaining days of the weekend in our minds. For now, we have to wait what the weather will do here tomorrow and Sunday, but I believe we are in good shape. I hope we can keep this momentum and show the same speed tomorrow!”
